Silk Swaddling Blanket
I stitched a silk swaddling blanket from silk dyed with avocado stones, coleus leaves, onion skins and saffron. Our third grandchild is due next week, the same day we fly to South Africa for most of April. I wanted something special to be wrapped around this babe so he/she will be be held by my stitches. I had exactly the right amount of silk dyed. This will be so soft and light in the summer with its cotton batting. It is meant to be washed and used up.
Lucky, loved baby.
Absolutely!

Congratulations! A very special blanket lovingly made for a very special baby.
Hope your trip to SA is a great adventure! I’m envious.
So touching and lovely, Val, no doubt the baby will feel wrapped in your arms even though you will be away in April.
All the Best to you and your family,
Chris
Thanks Chris xxx
Love as cloth. Oh, the colors. I’m hand stitching my daughter’s quilt now. It’s made of silk, too (tho somebody else dyed it).
Hello dear Jeanne! Just catching your comment now. Thanks so much for checking in. I trust you are all safe and well.
Beautiful blanket for such an occasion…congratulations. I am curious about the stitching… is it a kantha quilt stitch?
